William Arthur Beckett William Arthur Beckett, 93, of Hilton Head Island passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Life Care Health Center. Bill was born on January 21, 1920 in New York City to William and Elsie Kramm Beckett. As a young boy, Bill moved from Camp Upton, NY to Lynbrook, NY where he spent almost a half of century. He married Dorothea Burns in 1942. Bill was extremely patriotic. He served with distinction in the European Theatre of WWII earning the Bronze Star. His regiment received the Army Presidential Unit Citation. Bill was a hunter and fly fisherman. He was an avid supporter of the right to bear arms. He worked at Sperry Gyroscope as an electrical engineer for 42 years. Bill and Thea have been residents of Moss Creek Plantation for the last 26 years. They moved from Babylon, NY. Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothea; brother in law, Kenneth Burns of Seattle, WA; nephews, Clinton and Randall Burns, both of San Diego, CA; niece, Deborah Kirtland of La Jolla, CA and nephews, Thomas, Gerald and Ricky Burns all of Seattle, WA. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, May 11 at 3 pm at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory.
