Shirley Peters Fairvalley Shirley Peters Fairvalley of Hilton Head Island died September 15, 2013. She was born May 19, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Ben F. and Mayme Peters and sister to the late Don B. Peters. Mrs. Fairvalley spent her young school years in Berwyn and River Forest, Illinois. She attended Ferry Hall, a private girls school in Lake Forest, Illinois, graduating as class president in 1944. She attended college at the University of Illinois. An accomplished artist, Mrs. Fairvalley had many originals sold. She spent a decade as a realtor in Riverside and a modeling career for Bonwit Teller in Chicago and Oak Brook, Illinois. Mrs. Fairvalley was a member of Infant Welfare Society of Chicago, Riverside Chapter. She was also a member of the Sea Pines Country Club in Hilton Head Island, SC. Her special interests included art, sports and a love of fishing in Canada. She married Jay Fairvalley on February 2, 1952. Their children are a daughter Jill Fairvalley Griffith and her husband David of Dallas, Texas and a son, J.C. Fairvalley II and his wife Debra of Atlanta, Georgia. They have 4 grandchildren; Schuyler McCoy Griffith, Rush Peters Griffith, Wallis Ann Fairvalley and Grant Peters Fairvalley. She also leaves 3 nephews; Mr. & Mrs. Kent Peters of Houston, Texas, Dr. & Mrs. Randel Peters of Green Bay, Wisconsin and Mr. & Mrs. Jeff Peters of Windfield, Illinois. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 pm on Friday, September 20 at Providence Presbyterian Church on Cordillo Parkway, Hilton Head, SC. Reception 3 to 5 pm immediately following at The Harbour Town Grill. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity. The Island Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
