Ruth E. Kramer Ruth E. Kramer, 94, a resident of the Cypress on Hilton Head Plantation, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at The Preston Health Center. A devoted wife and mother, Ruth was the widow of Jack J. Kramer and is survived by members of her immediate family – two daughters, Diane K. Hennessey (Mark) of Pepper Pike, OH and Wendy K. Kulick (Tom) of Kiawah Island, SC; two grandchildren in Ohio, Adam Hennessey and Kira Hennessey; and a brother, James M. Ellers (Elaine) of Rancho Mirage, CA. Others who mourn her passing include her dear cousin Rosaly Greenberger, members of Jack's family (including sisters-in-law Ruth Sage and Elaine Kramer and brother-in-law Leonard Jetter), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you goes to Mildred Robinson, Mom's devoted caregiver and friend, along with the rest of the staff of the Preston and the Cypress, who helped Mom navigate the last few years of her journey gracefully. Ruth taught her daughters "to have a friend, you have to be a friend." The truth of this statement is evidenced by her close friends at the Cypress and friendships which have extended over 83 years. Everyone who knew Ruth remembers her with a smile on her face and a joy of life. A retired kindergarten teacher from the Amityville, NY school district, Ruth piloted the district's all-day kindergarten program. She was also a Past President of the Tri-Town Section of the National Council of Jewish Women. Ruth continued her devotion to education by volunteering for many years at Hilton Head Elementary School. A celebration of her life will be held at The Cypress Clubhouse at a later date. Donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the charity of your choice. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
