Nancy Graham Nancy Graham of Hilton Head Island died Friday, June 28, 2013 of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis at her residence. Nancy was born in Flushing, NY to Bergliot Johnsen and Ingvard K. Olsen. At Flushing High School she was president of the school, a cheerleader, on the Arista Honor Roll, wrote for the newspaper and was involved in one of the political parties at the school. After graduation, Nancy went to the Washington School for Secretaries in New York City. After finishing school she worked for a number of advertising agencies in New York City. Nancy met Joe Graham in his last year at Columbia University in NYC. It was a whirlwind romance. After they were married they moved to Indiana. She was president of a Charity Sorority and Joe and Nancy helped to start a new church, John Knox Presbyterian Church where Nancy taught Sunday school. Union Carbide transferred Joe and family to Buffalo, NY. Their 2 sons grew up there and Nancy was president of the Newcomers Club and of an alumni associate club. They then moved to Ridgefield, CT where she was president of the Ridgefield Women's club, Federated Women's Club and involved in the local community center for the beautification of Ridgefield. The next move was to Columbus, OH and then to Charlotte, NC where Nancy was president of the Newcomers Club. Then they were sent back to Ridgefield, CT. She became active again as president of the Newcomers Club and the Federated Women's Club of Ridgefield. While under Nancy's watch, they started the program "Are You Okay" for shut-ins. She was also involved in events for the upkeep of the first Governor's home of CT, which is in Ridgefield. They stayed there until they moved to Hilton Head Island. Nancy and Joe became involved right away in the Hilton Head Plantation Newcomers Club and served as secretary for 2 years. Nancy became active in the Hilton Head Plantation Women's Club and served as treasurer, secretary, vice president and president. She started the Marathon Bridge group along with a friend and also the Culinary Group. She ran the Island Hopper Group for 11 years along with many wonderful helpers from the club taking ladies on wonderful trips of fun and learning experiences. Nancy served a 3 year term on the Board of Governors at the Country Club of Hilton Head where she played golf with the ladies 9 hole group until her illness forced her to stop. She also loved to play bridge and Mah Jongg. She was also a member of the Hilton Head Plantation Yacht Club and First Presbyterian Church. Nancy is survived by her husband, Joe; 2 sons, David (Carol) Graham of Middleton, WI and Keith (Margaret) Graham of Boulder, CO; 5 grandchildren, Alison, Grace, Sara, Emma and John; sister and brother in law, Deanna and Bob Rumney of Virginia Beach, VA; sister in law and brother in law, Susan and Pete Leonard of Springfield, MO and cousins in Norway. She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 2 at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church with a reception at the church to follow.
