MARY WILKERSON GLASS Mary Wilkerson Glass, 78, of Hilton Head Island, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 27, 2013. She was born November 19, 1934 in Chesnee, South Carolina to the late Otto and Corinne Wilkerson and was one of eight children. Mary was working in Columbia, South Carolina and met Richard Glass who had recently returned from serving in Korea. They married, had two children, Gary and Allison and raised their family in Atlanta, Georgia before retiring to Hilton Head in 1985. Mary loved tennis, travel, mah jong, volunteer work, the Braves and the Falcons. She was a wonderful mother, "nanny" and loving wife. Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years Richard Glass; her daughter Allison Bassen, married to Mitchell Bassen and their three children, Carly, Alec and Sam, all living in New York. Her son, Gary Glass lives in Colorado with his two children, Leah and Derek. Mary was an active member and proud to be one of the original families of Congregation Beth Yam. Funeral services for our beloved Mary will be held Thursday, May 30 at 1PM at Congregation Beth Yam, 4501 Meeting Street, Hilton Head Island. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Care Committee of Congregation Beth Yam. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
