Florence "Flossie" Margaret Fell Florence "Flossie" Margaret Fell died on June 8th, 2013 at The Seabrook, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, aged 97. Flossie was born on August 26, 1915 in Poultney, Vermont, one of ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hampl. She graduated from Poultney High School and Green Mountain College. After college, she worked in Boston as a dental assistant, where she regularly attended Boston Red Sox games, sitting in the bleachers close to her baseball hero Ted Williams. She later moved to Albany, New York and became the book buyer for a local department store. There she met her husband to be, Edward Fell, an enterprising young Publisher's Representative. They were married in December 1948 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. They enjoyed 53 years of married life living in New York, Sheffield, MA, and West Hartford, CT before retiring to Hilton Head in 1978. After raising her two children, Flossie returned to work at the department store, Lord & Taylor. An avid golfer, Flossie took up the game relatively late in life at age 40. She was a natural, worked hard at the game and advanced to play competitively in the Connecticut Women's Golf Association, regularly scoring in the 80's. A steady and straight striker of the ball, she was rarely off the fairway and unerring around the greens. Her skilled short game earned her the nickname "chip and a putt". Flossie was predeceased by her husband, Ed Fell, in 2001. She is survived by her daughter Karen Fell Clift of Wellesley, MA, son Gregory E. Fell of Rye, NY, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister Karan of Jamestown, Rhode Island. Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Hilton Head on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 10 AM. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
