David Wilhelm David Wilhelm, 86, of Hilton Head Island died September 9, 2013. He is the son of Francis and Bertilla (Stoney) Wilhelm of Pittsburgh. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Burger) Wilhelm, a son Daniel (Susan) of Pittsburgh, a son Donald of New York City, a sister Constance Trimble of New York, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas, a brother James and a sister Anita. Born on August 4, 1927 in Independence, Kansas, he later moved to Pittsburgh and attended St. George High School and graduated from The University of Pittsburgh in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army Technical Intelligence Unit, stationed in Tokyo, Japan. His employment with U.S. Steel began in 1952 where he worked for thirty years in seven different operating divisions of the corporation in Chicago, Brazil and Pittsburgh. Following his retirement from U.S. Steel he moved to Hilton Head Island where he began employment with the Town of Hilton Head Island as Plans Examiner when the town was being incorporated. He is a founding member of St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, where he was a member of the building committee. He is a long time member of The Country Club of Hilton Head. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 13 at 10:30 am at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends contributions to St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, 45 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, SC, 29926.
