BARBARA MILLER HENESY Barbara Miller Henesy of Hilton Head passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Barbara lived her life to the fullest and loved being with her dear friends and family until her very last day. Vibrant, fun loving, the ultimate hostess and wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, she will be missed terribly by all who knew her. A native of Washington, DC, Barbara graduated from The National Cathedral School and attended George Washington University where she met the love of her life, Gregory Henesy. They married in 1947 and raised their family in the Bethesda-Potomac area. Barbara - known as "Baba" to her 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Dr. Gregory Henesy and four daughters: Gretchen Spiridopoulos (James, Hilton Head, SC); Bonnie Yatabe (Daniel, Los Angeles. CA); Cindy Deoudes (Thomas, Darnestown, MD); and Heidi Keller (Edwin, Winchester, MA). She is also survived by her brother Michael Gordon Miller (Millicent, Glen Allen, VA) and her sister Donna Miller (Mary Connaughton, Newton, MA). Grandchildren and great grandchildren include: Lisa Spiridopoulos Herman (Josh, children Mackenzie and Bryce) and Greg Spiridopoulos (Sheffra and daughter Audrey); Paige, Bryan and Kyle Yatabe; Valerie Deoudes Kranias (Michael) and Andrea Deoudes; and Caroline and Benjamin Keller and numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara and Greg retired to Hilton Head from Potomac, MD in 1992 and had a great life on the Island where they made many new friends and continued the good times with their old Potomac, MD friends who followed Barbara and Greg to Hilton Head. An avid lover of music and golf, Barbara was a member of the Oratorio Society of Washington and a lifelong member of Congressional Country Club. On Hilton Head, she was a member of Oyster Reef Golf Club and Country Club of Hilton Head. While her children and grandchildren lived across the country, Barbara created many lifelong memories by hosting amazing family reunions in Maine and Hilton Head. Incredibly organized, she never missed a birthday or anniversary and kept in touch with regular phone calls and notes. "Baba" was the chief organizer for all the memorable Ladies Lunches, theater outings and fun dinners. A Memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3001 Meeting Street, Hilton Head, SC 29926 on Wednesday, November 13th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Cathedral School, Liz Curran, Director of Annual Giving, Hearst Hall, Mount St. Alban, Washington, DC 20016 or Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, P.O. Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910. The Island Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.theislandfuneralhome.com
