Barbara H. Pfrunder Barbara Halsted Pfrunder( born July 24, 1930), daughter of the late Harold and Grace Halsted, passed from this life to the Gates of Heaven on October 24, 2013. She graduated from Emma Willard School in 1948 and from Hofstra College in 1952. She was married to Ernst Pfrunder on October 11, 1952. They lived in Amityville, Long Island until Ernst retired in 1987. She was President of the Amityville Woman's Club and of the Woman's Group of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Upon her husband's retirement they moved onto their boat and made the trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C. They lived on their boat in Harbour Town Marina for five years. Barbara was a volunteer at the Bargain Box, Hilton Head Christian Academy and President of the Women's Club at the Christ Lutheran Church. After moving to Sun City Hilton Head, Barbara was President of the 9-Hole Woman's Golf Association and ran a volunteer program of Sun City residents. She was a Volunteer at the Okatie Outpatient Clinic of the Hilton Head Medical Center. She and her husband moved in 2004 to the Seabrook retirement home on Hilton Head Island. They became active in the Fraser Health Center at the Seabrook. They took care of the garden planted by the Hilton Head Women's Garden Club. Barbara ran games, taught Bible Study, and started the Fraser Back Door Choir. Barbara Pfrunder is survived by her husband, Ernst, daughter Betsy and Son-in-law James Kellndorfer, and four grandchildren, Jamie and her husband, Matt Kelley, Laurie, Lisa and Julie, and son Randy Pfrunder and daughter-in-law Chris Pfrunder. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Bower Halsted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Long Island Lutheran High School, 131 Brookville Road, Brookville, NY 11505, Volunteers in Medicine, 15 Northridge Dr., Hilton Head Island, SC 29926, or The Seabrook Endowment Fund, 300 Woodhaven Dr., Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. A service celebrating her life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 829 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head on Tuesday October 29, 2013 at 2:00. A reception following the service will be held at the church. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
